This playlist is perfect for this morning’s rainy weather in Buffalo, NY. Be sure to look into the band, The Family Crest (similar to The Head and the Heart and Mumford and Sons).
Saturday Morning Folk
“Hero” by Frank Ocean + Mick Jones + Paul Simonon + Diplo
This song is incredible because it has everything in it. Literally, everything. Aside from it involving two Clash members, Frank Ocean, Diplo, and the West Lost Angeles Children’s Choir, “Hero” blends in sounds from the last seven decades. Now you’d think that would be too much noise but it just…works. Listen more than once and I guarantee “Hero” will grow on you and you’ll be pressing repeat in no time. Bombay Bicycle Club Comes to Buffalo August 2nd!
Bombay Bicycle Club is an indie rock band from London that’s playing at the Town Ballroom on August 2nd. Their latest album, “So Long, See You Tomorrow,” they say, was inspired by a trip to India and decided to include Bollywood music, Indian classical, and sampling electronics. Their music has really evolved from guitar-heavy rock to adventurous indie, electric, pop-like dance beats that will get you on your feet and on the dance floor. I’ve put a little playlist together to get you started. Also check out the song, “Home By Now.” That’s off their new album but I wasn’t able to add it to this playlist. However, I was able to find a remix, which isn’t that bad. Hope to see you at the concert! I’ll be in the front, dancing!
Sounds like: Bloc Party, Tokyo Police Club, Wild Beasts, Friendly Fires
Saturday Morning Folk: William Fitzsimmons
I just heard that William Fitzsimmons is playing at Buffalo Iron Works on June 9th. So I thought it was only appropriate to put together a little playlist of songs you should know by him…even if some of them are remixed.
Similar artists: Joe Purdy, Greg Laswell, Joshua Radin.
Sundaze Playlist

Not Your Average Frankie Avalon Solid Gold Oldies Playlist
I think it’s easy for anyone to just throw an oldies playlist together. Just go to the Billboard Top 100 of the 50s and 60s. Haven’t those Frankie Avalon Solid Gold Oldies infomercials taught you anything? Big fan of “Back to the Beach” by the way. Do you think if Annette Funicello were an up-in-coming actress today, she would have to change her last name? Funicello. I digress.
The great thing about music is that you can discover old music for the first time, years after it’s been created. Here’s my version of a solid gold oldies playlist. I’m hoping that you haven’t heard a few of the songs or artists before. Hey, it’s 5pm and I’m pretty sure that means cocktail hour. Press play, get a drink and dance your way outside because it’s absolutely beautiful outside. Well….it was!
What You Didn’t Know About Buffalo City Hall
Yesterday I made a visit to the Parking Violations Bureau at City Hall in downtown Buffalo. While I waited to plead my innocence against a parking ticket, I thought I would learn a few things about the building that makes downtown Buffalo’s architectural landscape so unique. Here are a few things that may surprise you:
- It only took 3 years to construct! (1929-1931)
- Total Cost: $6,851,546.85
- The ground area of the site on Niagara Square is 71,700 square feet, making it one of the largest city halls in the country.
- It takes 10 days to clean the windows! There are 1,520 windows from the first to the twenty-fifth floor. An interesting design feature is that all of them open inward, making window washers obsolete in the new City Hall.
- Its design took into account that Buffalo, in the 1920’s, was a growing city and would eventually need to expand. Thus, most interior walls were designed to be moved and the exterior was built to have more floors added. The caissons that support the entire structure were sunk far deeper than they needed to be. All of this made it easy for John Wade to draw, during an interview in February 1927, a view of what City Hall might look like in 2427 AD (five hundred years).
- Take the elevator to the 25th floor observation deck!!
